What to do if you spill red wine on your carpet ????
We have all done it, knocked the glass off the table, or rushed through with glass in hand, and it's spilt over the carpet!
Not to panic though as help is at hand, a few things you can do straight away to avoid a stain that cannot be removed.
Firstly, grab a towel or kitchen roll and press down on the stain, allowing the towel or kitchen roll to absorb as much liquid as possible, repeat as necessary with fresh towel or kitchen roll.
Then place another clean towel over the stain, grab a stiff brush and beat the towel (known as tampering) this will allow more of the stain to be passed up into the towel.
DO NOT SCRUB, if you have a wool or wool blend carpet, all you're going to do it distort the pile and push the stain in further to the fibres, this is why you should beat it with a towel and not scrub.
The next DO NOT DO is use washing up liquid, or any off the shelf carpet cleaner/stain remover. You need to remove the tannin in the wine, and as most are not designed for this it will make stain removal worse. Also, you cannot fully extract the chemical, so it will either or most times, both lock the stain in and bleach the area. Once this has happened the carpet is damaged and would need to be redyed.
Once these steps have been carried out you have the best chance of total removal from Foxcleanuk
On fully synthetic carpets, you will not damage the fibres with shop brought products but may still hinder the stain removal process.
Just as a final thought, have you ever used one of those off the shelf carpet stain mousses or sprays, then only to find your carpets get even dirtier around where the stain was?
This is because all the chemical (which people always spray too much on) is still in the carpet fibres and attracts all the dust to it and it sticks, leaving you with a dirty carpet then before.
